ABOUT IE -Gorakhpur Local Centre

The Institution of Engineers (India), a premier professional body for engineers, established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935, has been serving the cause of engineering science and technology for more than a few decades. It remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. It has in its fold more than 2,00,000 professional engineers and it operates through 124 State and Local Centres across the country and six chapters abroad. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe.

lEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity. The Institution also provides grant-in-aid to its members to conduct research and development on engineering subjects.

lEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in different Engineering disciplines, the successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India. The Institution of Engineers (India) Gorakhpur Local Centre

 

Gorakhpur Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) was established on the 5th of November, 2015.The centre was inaugurated by the then President of The Institution of Engineers (India),Dr.L.V.Muralikrishna Reddy and the inaugural function was presided over by the then Vice Chancellor of Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology ,Dr.Onkar Singh. Gorakhpur Local Centre has physical boundary covering Gorakhpur and Basti Mandai with seven districts under their jurisdiction, More than 650 corporate members from these places are attached with the centre.

In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named 34 districts including Gorakhpur and adjoining districts among country's 250 most backward districts. These 34 districts in Uttar Pradesh are currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme, designed to redress regional imbalances in development. During last one decade huge changes have taken place in Gorakhpur in all walks of life. Now there are four private Engineering Colleges besides erstwhile MMM Engineering College which has now become MMM University of Technology. Diploma Colleges, both Government and Private, have also registered their presence quite in number. Engineering Coliege/Govt.Polytechnics have also made their presence in other Districts of Gorakhpur Mandai and that of Basti Mandal.The faculty members (minimum Graduate in Engineering) ofthese institutions are more than 200.

Gorakhpur has since been developed with the state of art technology in engineering as well as the most modern architecture. Nearly 2700 small to medium/large scale industrial units have been registered during this period, employing hundreds of technical and non-technical workers. Moreover, total strength of serving Engineers in Central/State Govt. Departments, viz, Railways, Air Force, MES, PWD, Irrigation and Electricity Departments etc. in both Gorakhpur and Basti Commissionery (Mandai) would be around 1000.The strength of self employed and retired Engineers in Gorakhpuritselfwould be around 250.

The centre since its inception has been active in co-ordinating activities relating to technical and social developments with the help of professionals from these organizations. It has been organizing seminar and lecture meetto bring together professionals from industry, academia and other members of engineering fraternity to discuss burning problems affecting human lives and finding their probable solutions. The centre is actively pursuing the headquarters of IE (I) for getting an examination centre approved in Gorakhpurto facilitate students ofthis area.
